Irene Nicholaou

M.CI.Sc., Reg. CASLPO

Having had the opportunity to work in the industry as well as in a clinical setting with both geriatric and pediatric patients, Irene can say for certain helping patients hear better is her passion and her goal.

Irene always had a passion for science and healthcare. Following that passion, she went to McMaster University and graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science, specializing in Biology. With a desire to help improve peoples’ quality of life and a passion for science alike, audiology seemed like the correct fit. She obtained her Masters of Clinical Science in Audiology at Western University to pursue her career as an audiologist. Irene witnessed many times in her career the challenges and struggles faced by people with a hearing loss, and the impact a loss of communication can have on interpersonal relationships and she was determined to make a difference in their lives. One of her favourite experiences was working with a patient who was believed to have been showing signs of dementia because he had recently lost his vision and hearing. While the vision could not be restored, the addition of well-fit hearing aids rapidly changed his communication and he was able to interact and appropriately respond in social interactions. His family wept from joy from the drastic improvement they witnessed. Having had the opportunity to work in industry as well as in a clinical setting with both geriatric and pediatric patients, Irene can say for certain helping patients hear better is her passion and her goal. In her spare time, Irene enjoys crossfit and fitness in general, travel, bbq’s, good food and a cold beverage on a hot summer’s day.
