central auditory processing testing

CAP stands for Central Auditory Processing. Tests for central auditory processing disorders (CAPD) help unveil disruptions in the understanding of sound in the auditory system, beyond the ear and into the brain. CAPD is often diagnosed in children, but testing can also be completed on adults who may have been missed in childhood.

Signs of CAPD include :

  • Exaggerated difficulty hearing in noise, despite having normal hearing.
  • Issues following oral instructions.
  • Poorer than expected performance in school.
  • Easily distractible.
  • Signs of a hearing loss even though hearing is normal.
  • Behavioral problems in school.
