signs of hearing loss

The most common sign of a hearing loss is difficulty hearing in the presence of background noise. If you notice that you or a family member has trouble hearing or distinguishing words in restaurants, crowds, or any situation where there is competing noise, we recommend scheduling a hearing test.

Other signs of hearing loss include :

  • Difficulty hearing on the telephone.
  • Turning the television or radio up louder than normal.
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ear).
  • Peoples’ voices sounding muffled and unclear.
  • Sensation of people mumbling.
  • Asking people to speak slowly or more clearly.
  • Asking “what” or “pardon” often.
  • Inappropriate responses to questions or bluffing through conversation.
  • Withdrawing from social settings.
