signs of hearing loss

The most common sign of a hearing loss is difficulty hearing in the presence of background noise. If you notice that you or a family member has trouble hearing or distinguishing words in restaurants, crowds, or any situation where there is competing noise, we recommend scheduling a hearing test.

Other signs of hearing loss include :

  • Difficulty hearing on the telephone.
  • Turning the television or radio up louder than normal.
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ear).
  • Peoples’ voices sounding muffled and unclear.
  • Sensation of people mumbling.
  • Asking people to speak slowly or more clearly.
  • Asking “what” or “pardon” often.
  • Inappropriate responses to questions or bluffing through conversation.
  • Withdrawing from social settings.

If you have more questions about your hearing, feel free to call or email The Hearing Room. We have two hearing clinics located in Oshawa and one hearing clinic located in Stouffville to help serve you better. We hope to hear from you soon!
